The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the first Guru of Sikhism, is celebrated every year on the Purnima day of Shukla Pakhya in the month of Kartik. This year, the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev is being celebrated on November 8. Guru Nanak Devji was born on Kartik Purnima in Sri Nankana Sahib, Pakistan. Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary is also celebrated as Guru Festival and Prakash Festival.

The first Sikh Guru Nanak was born in 1469 at Talwandi in Punjab province. This place is known as Nankana Sahib. It is a very holy place for the people of Sikh religion. Guru Nanak’s mother’s name was Trupta and his father’s name was Kalyanchand. Nanakji spent most of his time in meditation since his childhood. He was not interested in worldly things. Nanak Devji was also a saint, guru and social reformer. He dedicated his entire life to humanity.

Guru Nanak Jayanthi is celebrated as Guru Parva or Prakash Parva. It is the most important festival celebrated in Sikhism. The morning ferry is taken out in the morning by chanting the name of Wah Guru Ji. Also, langar is organized for the devotees in the Gurdwara. Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrations begin two days before Purnmashi day or Purnima day It includes rituals such as Akhand Path, Nagar Kirtan, etc Gurdwaras are decorated all over the country on the day of Guru Nanak Jayanti, which is visited by a large number of devotees.
