These days it seems that instead of Rs.2000, Rs.500 and Rs.200 more notes are coming out of bank ATMs. Is the government planning to remove the 2000 rupees note from the market? The issue has been raised in Parliament. Lok Sabha MP Santosh Kumar asked the Finance Minister several questions, which were answered by the Finance Minister herself.
Finance Minister informed
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman revealed in the Parliament that according to the annual report of RBI, the total value of 500 and 2000 notes in March 2017 and March 2022 was 9.512 lakh crore and 27.057 lakh crore.
RBI has not given instructions
Along with this, the Finance Minister also said that no such order has been given by the Reserve Bank. The bank itself has decided which notes will be in which denominations and when. In addition to this, the finance minister said that according to the RBI’s annual report, Rs 2000 notes have not been printed since 2019-20.
