Olympic and Hockey World Cup medalist Barinder Singh has passed away

New Delhi: Olympic and Hockey World Cup medalist Barinder Singh has passed away. Barinder, a member of India’s most memorable victory in the 1970s, passed away in Jalandhar on Tuesday morning. He was 75 years old. He was a member of the 1975 KualaLumpur Men’s Hockey World Cup gold medalist Indian team. It is also India’s only gold medal in the World Cup. In that World Cup final, India defeated their arch-rivals Pakistan 2-1.

Barinder was also part of the Indian team that won 1972 Munich Olympic bronze medals and the silver medalist at the 1973 World Cup in Amsterdam. He was also a member of the Indian team that won silver medals in the 1974 and 1978 Asian Games. The great Indian hockey star competed in the 1975 Montreal Olympics.

In 2007, Barinder received the prestigious Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award. Hockey India pays homage to his afterlife. “Barinder’s success will be remembered by the hockey community all over the world,” Hockey India said in a condolence message.
