Jagdeep Dhankhar is the new Vice President of India

In the election, Dhankhad got 528 votes while Alva got 182 votes. 15 votes were rejected.

New Delhi: Former Governor of West Bengal Jagdeep Dhankhar has been elected as the Vice President of India. Voting for the vice-presidential election was held on Saturday, while the results were announced in the evening.

Dhankhar was nominated by NDA, while former Union Minister Margaret Alva stood against him from UPA. In the election, Dhankhar got 528 votes while Alva got 182 votes. 15 votes were rejected.

Utpal Kumar Singh, the returning officer of the presidential and vice-presidential elections and the general secretary of the Lok Sabha announced the election results and declared Dhankhar the winner.

Out of a total of 780 (including Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha) MPs, 725 MPs (93 percent) voted in Saturday’s election. Out of 39 MPs of Trunamul Congress, 37 did not vote and 2 voted. Similarly, 2 MPs each from Shiv Sena and Samajwadi Party and one MP from BSP did not vote.
