India’s ‘G20’ presidency begins today: 100 ‘ASI’ monuments, including Konark’s Sun Temple, will be illuminated for 7 days

New Delhi: As India takes over the presidency of the G20 today, 100 ASI monuments across the country, including the Sun Temple in Konark, Odisha, will be illuminated till the weekend, government officials said on Wednesday.

Among these monuments protected by the central government as ‘UNESCO World Heritage Sites’ are Humayun’s Tomb and Old Fort in Delhi, Sun Temple at Modhera in Gujarat, Sun Temple at Konark in Odisha and Sher Shah Suri’s Tomb in Bihar. ‘ 100 monuments will also be illuminated with the G-20 logo.

Starting today, India will preside over the G20 (Group of Twenty) which is the international economic cooperation. The G20 consists of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, England, United States and the European Union.

India will hold 200 meetings across the country in 32 different sectors during its annual presidency. The first meet ‘G20 Sherpa Meet’ will be organized in Udaipur in the first week of December.

Notably, in the last edition of ‘Man Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Modi said, India has got the ‘G20’ chairmanship while ‘Amritkal’ is going on. Whether it is peace, unity or sustainable development, we have to focus on the welfare of the world. India has solutions for the problems in all these areas. We have set a ‘theme’ for it: One World, One Family.
