UGC's Proposal for "Honours Degree"

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission may announce on Monday that students who want to graduate with honours in any subject will have to do ‘Four-Year Undergraduate Programmes’ (FYUP) as per the new rules.

The ‘draft’ of this new law is focused on the ‘National Education Policy‘. It states that students who complete 120 credits will be able to obtain a ‘UG Graduate Degree’ in 3 years. Similarly, they can get ‘UG Honors Degree’ in 4 years after completing 160 credits.

If students are interested in research specialization, they can take up research projects in this 4-year course. It is mentioned in the said draft that they will get ‘Honours Degree’ with ‘Research Specialisation’.

It is worth noting that, recently, the students were getting honours degree after completing the 3-year ‘undergraduate program’. In March, the UGC had made public the ‘Draft’ containing the proposed regulations to ensure certainty before the four-year-old regulation. However, the UGC has not commented on the relevance of this rule.
