Nippon Steel to set up 30 million tons capacity steel project in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A Japanese company and the world’s fourth largest steel company Nippon Steel will set up the largest steel plant in Odisha. The capacity of this steel project will be 30 million tons per annum. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik gave this information after meeting Nippon Steel President Eiji Hashimoto in Tokyo on Tuesday. He said that it will be a greenfield project (environmentally friendly).

The Chief Minister said that a huge amount of foreign investment will come to Odisha through this project and this will create huge employment opportunities in various districts of Odisha such as Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Keonjhar etc. Chief Minister has invited President Hashimoto and his team to come to Odisha.

It is worth noting that in 2021, AMNS signed an MoU with Odisha government for setting up a 12 million capacity steel plant in Kendrapara district of Odisha. The company is a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel. 50 thousand crore rupees will be invested in this project. Similarly, AMNS is proposed to set up a seven million tonne capacity project in Jagatsinghpur.
