New Delhi: Election results for the post of Speaker in the Lok Sabha have been declared. Om Birla, the candidate supported by the ruling NDA, has been elected as the Speaker once again. Om Birla has lost to rival candidate K Suresh from the opposition-led India Bloc. After being elected this time, he has become the speaker for the second time. He is directly elected as there is no demand for vote division.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also given her support to Congress leader K Suresh, who is the candidate of the opposition-led India Bloc. However, he lost.
