Despite being a corporation election, it turned out to be a high-profile contest as the credibility of the BJP, which had been in power in MCD for a decade and a half, was at stake. AAP had been consistently defeating the BJP in the Delhi assembly elections but the Bhagwa party retained its hold on MCD.

MCD Election

By winning this election, the Aam Aadmi Party wanted to send a message to the entire nation that if anyone can stop the victory of the BJP, it is only Kejriwal. He seems to have succeeded. Although AAP did not win the election results as expected, the gap between BJP and AAP is very narrow.

The BJP went all out to win the election, fielding many state chief ministers along with Union ministers in the campaign. But it seems that the garbage issue raised by Kejriwal has won everyone over the issue raised by the BJP. Garbage has been standing in Delhi for three years, but till date it has not become an election issue. This time, Arvind Kejriwal raised the issue of these three hills and caused the BJP a lot of trouble.
