Sydney: The portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the Australian $5 banknote will be removed to honor and commemorate the history of the ancient culture, the Reserve Bank of Australia said today.
The Reserve Bank of Australia said in a statement that the above decision was taken in consultation with the federal government, which supports the change. The Reserve Bank also said that the photo of the Australian Parliament will be printed on the opposite side of the said note.
After Queen Elizabeth’s death last year, Australia’s next ceremonial monarch has been debated. In the 1999 ‘referendum’ (voting), a very small number of voters chose the British King as the head of their country.
King Charles III, who became the British monarch after his mother’s death, is the ceremonial head of Australia, New Zealand and 12 other Commonwealth (commonwealth) nations.
In September 2022, Australia said that the portrait of Queen Elizabeth cannot be replaced by the portrait of King Charles on the Australian $5 note. Any Australian personality can take the Queen’s place.
Australian government authorities said that her portrait was printed on the 5 dollar Australian note because of the queen’s personality, not because she was a queen. Now, who will be printed on the notes instead of the Queen, the “Labor Party” administration of Australia will have to decide by amending the constitution through “voting” or “referendum”.
