New Delhi: In 1947, the Nizam of Hyderabad presented Queen Elizabeth II with a platinum necklace studded with 300 diamonds.

During her 70-year reign, Queen Elizabeth II received many precious gifts. The most famous gift was the 300 diamond-encrusted platinum necklace made by the French company Cartier.

According to the British royal family, the necklace was gifted by the Nizam of Hyderabad on the occasion of Princess Elizabeth’s wedding in 1947. The Nizam told the ‘Cartier’ in London that Princess Elizabeth herself would choose her wedding gift. Finally, over 300 diamond-encrusted platinum necklaces were selected.

In two photos posted on The Royal Family’s official Instagram account on July 21, the Queen Elizabeth II wore the diamond necklace.

The first photo was taken in 1952, just days after the Queen ascended the throne. In it, she is wearing an evening dress made of ‘Hartnell satin’ with the emblem of the ‘Order of the Garter’. A postage stamp in England was printed based on this famous photo.
