Pune: Omicron’s subtype BF.7 is at the root of the current surge in infections in China. So this is not a new type of virus. It has been seen in different countries of the world for about 2 years. But it has not caused as much damage in other countries as it has caused terror in China.
As of February 2021, 91 countries have tested positive for the virus, according to Scripps Research Institute. Finally, it is named as BF.7 which is an abbreviation of BA.5.2.1.7. It is a sublineage of Omicron BA.5. However, while it has a presence all over the world, researchers are unable to find the reason why it played terror in China. When it was first detected on February 26 last year, researchers have revealed that 47,881 people have been infected with it worldwide.
