Shillong: Conrad Sangma may take oath as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya on March 7, reports ‘India Today’. Prime Minister Modi may also attend the swearing-in ceremony.

The leader of the party ‘National People’s Party’, which won 26 seats in the assembly elections, today submitted a resignation letter to the Governor of Meghalaya, Phagu Chauhan, and demanded the formation of a new government.

Sangma claimed that he has the support of 32 MLAs. However, he refused to name the parties supporting him.

Addressing a press conference before going to the Raj Bhavan today, Sangma said, “We have achieved absolute majority.” BJP has already given its support. Some other parties are also supporting.

It is worth noting that in the 60-member Meghalaya assembly elections, the ‘National People’s Party’ won 26 seats while the ‘BJP’ won only 2 seats. Besides, United Democratic Party won 11 seats, TMC 5 seats and Congress 5 seats in this election.

BJP has already decided to support Conrad Sangma.
