Cyber Fraud on 5G SIM Cards; Target Jio, Airtel customers

Cuttack: Are you getting any message to change your 4G SIM card to 5G ahead of faster internet service? If you get it, it is sent by cyber criminals. In the name of transition to 5G, cyber criminal groups are cloning customers’ mobile numbers and wiping all the money from their bank accounts. WhatsApp, e-mail and all social media accounts connected to this mobile number are hacked and asking for money from relatives.

Cybercriminals are withdrawing the money sent to the relative’s bank account. As the customer’s SIM card is being cloned, the customer does not know anything about it. After the launch of 5G service, this kind of completely new cyber crime is said to be the biggest challenge for Odisha Police.

According to information, since 5G internet service was launched by Jio and Airtel from October 1st, cyber criminals have now started targeting the mobile customers of these two companies. They are committing crimes in a completely new way. Cybercriminals are first sending WhatsApp and mobile messages to customers of these two mobile service providers to switch their 4G SIM to 5G for free. There is a mobile number below the message for more information. After customers phone the cybercriminals wanting to switch to SIM 5G immediately for free, they are sent a 20-digit number written on the back of a blank SIM card. It is recommended to send a message to this number. After few hours customer’s mobile number is not switching to 5G. Rather, the customer’s mobile number is being replaced on a blank SIM card in possession of cybercriminals. The SIM card with the customer is becoming inactive.

After the customer’s mobile number is activated in the cybercriminal’s new SIM card, the cybercriminal uses that number to change the customer’s internet banking password, Gmail password, etc. After changing the password, the cyber criminals steal all the money in the customer’s bank account.
