Draupadi Murmu took oath as the President of India
64-year-old Murmu is the country's youngest, first-caste and post-independence President
New Delhi: Draupadi Murmu, the daughter of Odisha soil, took oath as the 15th President of India at 10.13 am in the Central Hall of the Parliament today. Chief Justice of India N. V. Ramana makes her read the oath of rank and secrecy.
Outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkanidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla were present along with all Union Ministers and Members of Parliament. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was present at the oath-taking ceremony, while Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar could not attend the ceremony.
Earlier, she went from the Raj Ghat to pay his respects at the tomb of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. Mrs. Murmu greeted the outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind on his arrival at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Ram Nath Kovind and Savita Kovind met Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
