Election Commission removes 10 million fake ‘entries’ from ‘electoral roll’
To simplify the process, the Election Commissioner has arranged for voluntary linking of voter ID card with Aadhaar card from August 1
New Delhi: Emphasizing the task of deleting fake entries from the ‘Electoral Roll‘, India’s Election Commission has removed about 10 million fake entries in the last seven months or corrected them where necessary, said government officials.
Notably, voter IDs found to be fake are destroyed or corrected where necessary by identifying entries with census statistics and similar photos. The Election Commission of India has emphasized on eliminating fake entries to create a comprehensive ‘digital database’ of voters.
To simplify the process, the Election Commissioner has arranged for voluntary linking of voter ID card with Aadhaar card from August 1. However, the opposition party strongly criticized this system and said that it could expose personal information.
Both the State and Election Commission of India go through a proper verification of the same entries and remove the fake entries.
