300 units of free electricity will be provided to 1 crore households

Free Electricity Scheme: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced the ‘Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana’. While the scheme was announced to promote solar energy, more than Rs 75,000 crore will be invested in the scheme. Significantly, the project aims to light 1 crore homes by providing up to 300 units of free electricity every month.

Free Electricity Scheme: Launching the scheme, the Prime Minister said that from adequate subsidies to be deposited directly in the bank accounts of citizens to concessions on bank loans, the central government will ensure that people are not burdened with unnecessary expenses. All stakeholders will be integrated through a national online portal.

Urban administrations and panchayats will be encouraged to use rooftop solar systems in their areas to popularize the scheme at the grassroots level. Due to this scheme, people will get more income, lower electricity bills and generate employment.”
