Lieutenant colonel to colonel; 108 women army officers will be promoted to the rank of colonel

New Delhi: Army officials have said that the Indian Army has conducted a ‘Special Selection Board’ process for women officers to be promoted from lieutenant colonel to colonel.

This process, which started on January 2, 2023, will continue till January 22, to make women officers at par with male officers in the army.

According to Army officials, suitable applicants will be selected from a total of 244 women officers for 108 vacant posts. These women officers from 1992 to 2006 batch are from Arms and Services Engineering, Signals, Army Air Defence, Intelligence Corps, Army Service Corps, Army Ordnance Corps and Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Department.

In order to ensure gender equality in the Indian Army and to promote the women officers, the government announced the vacancy for this ‘Special No. 3 Selection Board’.

A total of 60 women officers have been included as observers for this ‘Selection Board’ to ensure that the selection process is impartial and to remove any doubt about it.

108 women officers deemed suitable by the Selection Board will be appointed to various ‘Command Assignments’. The initial recruitment process of this selection will begin by the end of January this year, Army officials said.
