5th Kalvari class submarine ‘INS Vagir’ joined Indian Navy

Mumbai: The 5th Kalvari class submarine ‘INS Vagir’ has been inducted into the Indian Navy today in Mumbai.

INS Vagir will enhance the Navy’s ISR and Special Operations capabilities.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar attended the launch of INS Vagir, which was built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in Mumbai with French technology.

In a statement in this regard, the Navy said, the submarine will conduct Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) to conduct decisive attacks in times of crisis and enhance the capabilities of the Navy to strengthen India’s maritime interests by repelling the enemy.

‘Vagir’ means ‘sand shark’ . It is represents stealth and fearlessness. These two qualities are the moral qualities of every submariner, it is mentioned in the said statement.

Vagir is equipped with some of the best sensors in the world. It has a sufficient number of ‘wire-guided torpedoes’ and water to the surface missiles to destroy large enemy battleships.
