A spokesman for Ryanair said: "Due to circumstances beyond our control, the said flight from Dublin to Faro on Friday had to be diverted to Spain.

New Delhi: Passengers were surprised as all the Ryanair flights to Spain did not go there and landed in Portugal, a country 300 km away.

According to the information received, the Ryanair flight was traveling from Dublin to Faro, Portugal on the night of September 16. However, upon landing, the passengers found that they had arrived in Malaga, Spain, 300 km away from their intended destination.

What happened later was that due to an Air Traffic Control (ATC) strike, the said Ryanair flight was forced to land at a Spanish airport as it could not arrive before the curfew time (night flight time) of Faro airport.

French air traffic control apologized to Ryanair passengers for the inconvenience caused by the strike and was forced to divert the flight from Portugal to Spain.

A passenger tweeted that the flight took off from Dublin 1 hour before the curfew at Faro airport (around 1am).

A spokesman for Ryanair said: “Due to circumstances beyond our control, the said flight from Dublin to Faro on Friday had to be diverted to Spain.

It is worth noting that 157 passengers on the plane traveled by bus for 5 hours and reached their respective destinations in Portugal.
