Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva took oath

Brasilia: Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was sworn in as the president of Brazil, the largest republic in Latin America, on Sunday. Popularly known as Lula, the 77-year-old leader promised to improve the country’s economy despite the global recession. Before this, he became president twice in 2003 and 2011.

However, the promise made by Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for the prosperity of the country is not so easy. Brazil has experienced greater political polarization over the past two decades.

Earlier, his Workers’ Party had lost the trust of the people due to corruption. However, even though the swearing-in ceremony as the new president has ended, it has raised questions as to how former president Jair Bolsonaro will hand over power to Lula.

Because Bolsonaro canceled his swearing-in ceremony and visited the United States. Bolsonaro’s supporters staged violent protests on October 30 as Lula won by a narrow margin. That is why the security system in Brasilia was tightened.
