Supreme Court will take action if govt doesn't take

Manipur Violence: The Supreme Court today said that we will take action if the government does not take action in the case of the video of two women walking naked on the road in Manipur.

Responding to the incident, Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud said, “In the area where communal riots are going on, the incident of exploiting women is intolerable.” We are deeply disturbed by this video. If the government does not take action on this Manipur Violence, we will. Now it is time for the government to intervene and take action. Such incidents cannot be tolerated in a constitutional democracy. A cause for concern.

The Chief Justice also said that the government should inform the Supreme Court about the steps taken for the protection of women in the area along with filing the case in the name of the accused.

He added, what has been described in various media and videos seems to be a ‘total constitutional failure’.

The Chief Justice of India said that the case will be heard on July 28, along with requesting a report from the Central Government and N. Biren Singh-led state government.

It is to be noted that the central government has asked Twitter and other social media to remove the said video from the platform as the investigation into the incident of two women driving naked on the road in Manipur is ongoing.
