New Delhi: Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL) will set up a new power plant of 1600 MW capacity in Odisha. In that, the company will invest about 12 thousand crore rupees. In this regard, the Chairman and Managing Director of the company, Shri O P Singh informed. Coal will be used as fuel in this power plant.
Currently dealing only in coal, MCL plans to diversify its business. As part of this plan, the company wants to set up a power plant. “We want to generate electricity,” said Mr. Singh. That is why we will set up the power plant. Negotiations are ongoing with some states to reach an agreement on power purchase. The company has applied for coal linkages to meet the fuel requirements of the power plants. Coal has not been allocated till now.
Mr. Singh further said that the government is asking us to diversify the business. It means that the government is with us. We are also going to enter aluminum business. We will be allocated bauxite for that. The capacity of the mine will be close to 3 million tons per year, he said.
MCL Production Plan
In the current financial year (2022-23), MCL aims to produce 176 million tonnes of coal. But by the end of the financial year on March 31, production is expected to cross 190 million tonnes. In 2021-22, the company produced 168 million tonnes of coal and dispatched 176.17 million tonnes of coal.
