‘Mother Heroine’ Scheme :Russian Government

New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin is giving money to women to have 10 children each in order to correct the population loss caused by the Covid-19 epidemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, said Dr. Jenny Mathers, an expert on Russian politics and security.
In an interview with Times Radio’s Henry Bonsu, Mathers said the above Russian plan was named ‘Mother Heroine’. President Putin said that people who have big families are very patriotic and they will be closer to “Mother Russia”.
In the ‘Mother Heroine‘ scheme, a woman is paid 1 million rubles (Russian currency) 13,500 pounds at once for giving birth to 10 children. However, the condition is that the 10th child should reach the age of 1 and after showing that the 9 previous children are alive, the declared amount will be paid. “But it seems like a desperate plan,” Mathers said.
He further said, since 1990, there has been a population crisis in Russia. Moreover, the invasion of Ukraine and the Covid-19 pandemic have really complicated Russia’s demographic crisis. Therefore, the scheme is an attempt to encourage Russian women to have more children and build larger families.
