New Delhi: Today, while returning to Ghati from a regular flight, a MiG-29K fighter jet of the Indian Navy crashed into the Arabian Sea off the coast of Goa due to a technical fault.
The Indian Navy said that the pilot of the said aircraft was safely ejected from the crashed aircraft and his condition is stable.
Immediately after the accident, a search and rescue operation was launched.
A spokesperson of the Indian Navy also said that a ‘Board of Inquiry’ has been ordered to investigate the cause of the accident.
It is worth noting that the MiG-29K is an all-weather, well-armed modern fighter jet. Moving at twice the speed of sound (about 2000 kilometers per hour), this aircraft can lift 8 times the weight of gravity and rise to a height of 65,000 feet above sea level.
In 2020, Indian Navy pilot Nishant Singh died when a MiG-29K fighter jet crashed in the Arabian Sea.
Earlier, 2 MiG-29 fighter jets crashed on February 23, 2020 and November 16, 2019. Similarly, India’s first MiG-19K fighter jet crashed in 2018.
