New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot told reporters in Kerala that Rahul Gandhi has made it clear that no one from the Gandhi family will be the next president of the Congress party.
He also assured the reporters that he will contest for the top post of the Congress party.
He said, “It has been decided that I will contest for the Congress chairmanship.” Soon I will schedule my candidature submission date. According to the current situation in the country, it is necessary for the opposition to be strong.
He further said, “I repeatedly requested Rahul Gandhi to accept everyone’s proposal to become the president of the Congress.” But, he made it clear that I have already decided that no one from the Gandhi family should be the next chief.
Rahulji said to me, I know that they want to make me the party chief. I respect their wishes. But, I have decided that a non-Gandhi should be the president of the Congress.
The Chief Minister of Rajasthan met Rahul Gandhi on the occasion of his participation in ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra‘ in Kerala last evening.
