India has benefited greatly from Vajpayee’s leadership: PM Modi

New Delhi: India has benefited greatly from Vajpayee’s leadership, PM Modi said today while paying tributes to BJP leader and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 5th death anniversary.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and many ministers of the Union Cabinet and leaders of various political parties attended the prayer meeting held at ‘Sadaiv Atal’, the memorial site of former Prime Minister Vajpayee.

Paying tribute to Vajpayee, PM Modi tweeted that he played an important role in promoting India’s progress and taking the country into the 21st century in many ways. 140 crore people of India are paying tribute to the great Atalji on his death anniversary.

Notably, Vajpayee, born in Gwalior in 1924, became the Prime Minister of India from May 16, 1996 to June 1, 1996 and again from March 19, 1998 to May 22, 2004. In addition, he was previously the Minister of External Affairs of India from 1977 to 1979 in Prime Minister Moraji Desai’s cabinet.

He passed away on August 16, 2018 at the age of 93 at AIIMS Hospital, Delhi.
