New Delhi, 01/09: BJP has started preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in various states. As per the party strategy, the name of the leading chief ministerial candidate will not be announced in any state. Of course, the current Chief Ministers may get a chance to remain in the post of Chief Minister after winning the elections. By the end of this year assembly elections are going to be held in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh. Assembly elections will be held in Karnataka, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh next year.
Now there is a BJP government in Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Tripura and Madhya Pradesh. After the reshuffle of the BJP Parliamentary Board a few days ago, there was a consensus among the top leaders that there is an anti-incumbency wave about the leadership of the state where the party in power. There is a lack of coordination at the organizational level. In such a situation, the option of contesting elections under the leadership of the current Chief Minister should be avoided.
According to a senior leader of the BJP, the present Chief Ministers have also opined that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s face should be present in the assembly elections. A message should be given to the electorates of the state as a good alternative to a double engine government under the leadership of Modi. A general secretary of the party said, collective leadership does not mean changing the chief minister after coming to power. Current Chief Ministers like Goa and Uttarakhand may get another chance.
Even in the state where BJP is in opposition seats, the party will fight the election under the collective leadership of Modi. According to sources, the popularity of the Chief Minister of any BJP-ruled state is not more than 25%. This is from the internal survey of the party. Whereas the Prime Minister’s popularity graph is more than 75%.
