Ex-Maoist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal was sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Nepal

New Delhi: Pushpa Kamal Dahal took oath as the new Prime Minister of Nepal. For the third time he has become the Prime Minister of Nepal. On Sunday, President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed Mr. Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the new Prime Minister of the country. He became the Prime Minister as per Article 76(2) of the Constitution. President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath to him at the winter residence.

It is worth noting that the political events in Nepal took a new turn on Sunday after the elections held on 20th of last month. The opposition CPN-UML and other smaller parties agreed to support the CPN-Maoist Center chairman Prachanda to form the government. An agreement has been reached between Prachanda and K.P. Sharma Oli to become the Prime Minister. In the first phase, Prachanda will be the Prime Minister and in the second phase, Oli will be the Prime Minister.

No party got a majority in the last election. The Nepali Congress under the leadership of Sher Bahadur Deuba has emerged as the largest party by winning 89 seats. Later, the opposition CPN-UML won 78 seats and the CPN-Maoist Center party of Prachanda won 32 seats. But the support of 138 MPs is required to form a government in the 275-seat Nepali Parliament. So more than two parties have formed the government together. He is said to have the support of 165 MPs.
