A 60 year old man who sent death threats to Rahul Gandhi was arrested from Indore

Indore: A 60 year old man was arrested on Thursday after sending a letter to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi threatening to kill him, police said.

Before the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ entered Madhya Pradesh last year, he sent a death threat letter to Rahul Gandhi. The letter mentioned that a bomb will be dropped on Rahul Gandhi as soon as he enters Madhya Pradesh’s Indore. The said letter was found outside a sweet shop in Indore.

Investigation revealed that the sender of the letter was Dayasingh alias Aishilal Jham. Congress leader Kamal Nath was also threatened with death.

After receiving information from the station yesterday that the accused Dayasingh was trying to escape by boarding the train, the police reached there and arrested him under the ‘National Security Act‘.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Nimish Agrawal said that the district administration has issued an order that Aishilal Jham will be kept in jail. It is not known why the accused sent the letter to Rahul Gandhi.

It is speculated that it may be related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Therefore, the incident is under investigation.

Notably, as soon as the letter was received on November 2022, a case was registered against the unknown person who wrote the letter under Section 507 of the IPC and an investigation was started.
