Calcutta High Court orders NIA probe into West Bengal Ram Navami violence case
Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has ordered a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the violence that took place in Howrah, Hooghly and Dalkhola in West Bengal during Ram Navami this year.
The bench of the acting chief justice ordered the West Bengal police to hand over all necessary documents to the NIA within two weeks.
Therefore, all the police stations in the areas where the violence took place will hand over all the relevant records, FIRs and CCTV footage to the National Investigation Agency. After receiving the ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the Central Government, the ‘National Investigation Agency’ will start investigating the incident.
It is worth noting that the High Court has given the above order after the ‘BJP’ MLA Suvendu Adhikari filed a public interest case for the ‘National Investigation Agency’ investigation of the Ram Navami violence incident in West Bengal.
It is to be remembered that on March 30, there was a fierce clash in Howrah district during the procession of Ram Navami. In the next 3 days, the violence spread to North Dinajpur and Hooghly districts. Some civilians along with the police were injured in the violence. Many vehicles were burnt. Stone pelting and shops were vandalized.
Earlier this month, the Calcutta High Court said that the report filed by the state police indicated that the Ram Navami clash was planned in advance. Clashes broke out between the two groups. A third party may want to take advantage of this situation. If a third party is involved, the incident will require a central agency investigation. It is very difficult for the state police to identify the third group. Therefore, it is not possible to identify the third group without a central investigation.
