SIM card connections are no longer readily available; Government’s big decision
SIM Card Connection Decision: The central government has taken a big decision regarding SIM card today. In order to stop cyber fraud in the country, Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday blacklisted around 67,000 SIM card dealers.
In addition, the government has mandated verification of SIM card dealers to prevent fraud.
Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday said that the government has made police verification of SIM card dealers mandatory to prevent fraud and the provision of ‘connection’ in bulk has now been stopped.
52 lakh mobile connections are closed
Along with this, the Union Minister (Ashwini Vaishnaw) said that the government has closed 52 lakh mobile connections. The names of 67,000 dealers have been blacklisted. Since May 2023, 300 FIRs have been registered against SIM card dealers.
Rs 10 lakh fine will be imposed to violate the rules
Ashwini Vaishnaw said that WhatsApp itself blocked around 66,000 accounts that were involved in fraud. He said that now we have made it mandatory to check the SIM card dealers by police to prevent fraud. A fine of Rs 10 lakh will be imposed on dealers who violate the rules.
The minister said that there are 10 lakh SIM dealers and they will be given enough time to check the police. He said that the telecom department has also stopped the ‘connection’ service in large numbers. Instead, a new concept of business connectivity will be introduced.
Apart from this, Ashwini Vaishnaw said that KYC of businesses and KYC of SIM takers will also be done. KYC helps to authenticate the identity and address of an institution or investor.
