Supreme Court: Why Arun Goel was appointed as Election Commissioner at ‘lightning speed’

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today asked the government what was the reason for appointing former IAS officer Arun Goel as the Chief Election Commissioner in lightning speed.

The Supreme Court, seeking the original file of the appointment of Election Commissioner Arun Goel, said that the file was approved at a very fast pace. In response, the public prosecutor asked the court to remain silent and take a holistic view of the matter.

The Supreme Court said on Wednesday that the person who said ‘yes’ to the government should not be from the Election Commission. The Supreme Court held a hearing on the appointment today and said that the Law Minister has selected one of the four shortlisted candidates. The file prepared on November 18 was presented on the same day. The Prime Minister also recommended his name that day. We do not want to argue in this regard. But, what was the need to appoint the Election Commissioner so hastily?

The court also said that the post of Election Commissioner was vacant from May 15. Tell us why the government had to rush to fill the vacant posts from May to November. And this recruitment process started in one day and ended in one day. It took less than 24 hours for the process to be completed and the notification to be published. What kind of rating was given in this case? We don’t doubt Arun Goel’s qualifications, we doubt his recruitment process.

Attorney General R. Venkataramani appeared on behalf of the central government responded by saying, “Please be quiet for a while.” I request you to look at the totality of this matter.

But, the court again said, we do not understand. The names of 4 people were selected as the ‘Yes Men’ (Bolkra) of the government. We are asking about that selection process. How these 4 names were shortlisted in the ‘Officers Database’ of the ‘Personnel Department’.
