New Delhi, 26/08: Justice U U Lalit will be the next Chief Justice of the country after NV Ramana. Before assuming office on Saturday, Justice Lalit outlined his priorities as the chief justice of the country’s highest court. Along with this, he has given information about which aspects he will focus on during his 73-day tenure.
Lalit said, his biggest priority will be to make the listing of cases in the court easier, clearer and more efficient. Apart from this, Justice Lalit promised that priority will be given to the hearing of urgent cases in various courts. At least one jury will work for the whole year, U U Lalit said.
NV Ramana, who retired earlier on Friday, said that it was his constitutional duty to bring the Constitution and the law closer to the common people. Emphasis was placed on creating awareness and confidence in the judiciary among the people. Even today, millions of people’s voices are being suppressed. And due to lack of awareness and proper tools, they are unable to reach the court. NV Ramana said that there is a need to provide timely legal assistance to these people.
