The country’s first under-water tunnel will be operational in 2023, passengers can travel under water
Kolkata: The country’s first underwater tunnel will be operational in Kolkata in 2023. As a result, passengers can travel under the river bed for the first time.

Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) said on Friday that the East-West Metro Corridor project will be completed soon. Under this project, preparations have been made to run an underwater metro. KMRC has claimed that the project will be completed by December 2023. The country’s first underwater metro will run under the Hooghly river and connect Kolkata with Howrah. The diameter of the inner circle of this tunnel is 5.5 meters while the diameter of the outer circle is 6.1 meters.
KMRC will be the first metro company in the country to do this kind of work. The company started in 1984 is the first metro train company of the country.
KMRC General Manager Civil Shailesh Kumar said that the project to build an underwater tunnel is in progress and will be completed by December 2023.
Rakesh Kumar said that the project has been delayed due to delay in land acquisition and rehabilitation program and some other reasons.
