Will continue to make efforts to bring Kohinoor diamonds from England: Central Govt

New Delhi: The Indian government informed on Friday that efforts will be made to find a way to bring back the world’s largest diamond ‘Kohinoor’ from England.
After the death of the long-reigning British Queen Elizabeth II, the demand to bring back the ‘Kohinoor’ has reawakened in India.
Asked about the demand for the return of the Kohinoor, the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, pointed to the government’s reply in Parliament on this issue a few years ago.
He said, “What I have understood from the answer given by the Government of India in the Parliament a few years ago. We have been raising this issue with the England government time to time. And we will continue our efforts to find a satisfactory solution.
Notably, the 108 carat ‘Kohinoor’ diamond or gem was presented to Queen Victoria by Maharaja Duleep Singh in 1849.
There is a possibility that Queen Camilla will wear a ‘Kohinoor’ diamond encrusted crown in the coronation ceremony to be held on May 6 next year.
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, a significant number of Indian Twitter users have demanded that the ‘Kohinoor’ be brought back to India.
