Sixth edition of India-Japan Maritime Exercise 2022 (Zimex 22) has started from September 11 in the Bay of Bengal

The ceremony is being held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of India's diplomatic relations with Japan and the 10th anniversary of Zimex

New Delhi: The India-sponsored Japan-India Maritime Exercise 2022 (Zimex 22) has started from September 11 in the Bay of Bengal. This is the sixth edition of Zimex. It includes the Indian Navy’s three indigenously-built multirole stealth warships Sahyadri and ship-diving warships Kadmatt and Kavaratti.

Along with this, the Guided Missile Destroyer Ranvijay, Fleet Tanker Jyoti, Offshore Patrol Vessel Sukanya, submarines, MIG 29K fighter aircraft, Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft and ship borne helicopters are also involved in this maritime combat exercise. Similarly, Japanese warships have also joined the said joint exercise. The naval exercise will be conducted in two phases, one in the sea and the other harbour phase in Visakhapatnam. The ceremony is being held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of India’s diplomatic relations with Japan and the 10th anniversary of Zimex. As a result, cooperation between the two countries is expected to increase.
