Beijing: India’s absence from the meeting of 19 nations of the Indian Ocean region, hosted by China this week, is conspicuous.

The China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), affiliated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, organized a meeting of the ‘China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Development Cooperation’ on November 21, and 19 countries participated in it, according to a press release from CIDCA.

The theme of the conference, held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, was ‘Shared Development: Theory and Practice from the Perspective of Blue Economy’.

It was attended by representatives of 19 countries including Indonesia, Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, Afghanistan, Iran, Oman, South Africa, Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania, Seychelles, Madagascar, Mauritius, Djibouti, Australia and three international organizations.

According to information gathered, India was not invited to attend the said meeting.

Similarly, last year too, China organized a meeting on covid-19 vaccine cooperation without inviting India.
