Central Cabinet Decision: Warehouses of 2000 tonnes capacity will be set up in each block
New Delhi: The Union Cabinet today approved the world’s largest food storage scheme. Under this plan, warehouses of 2 thousand tons capacity will be constructed in each block to increase the food grain storage capacity of the country.
Giving information in this regard, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said, today in the cabinet meeting, the world’s largest storage scheme in the cooperative sector has been approved. Currently, the country’s food grain storage capacity is 1450 million tons, and another 700 million tons of it will be increased.
An empowered inter-ministerial committee will be constituted for this scheme under the chairmanship of the Union Minister. About one lakh crore rupees will be spent to start this scheme. This scheme will be implemented in the first 10 districts as a pilot project.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur said, under this plan, the storage capacity of food grains will be increased to 2150 lakh tons in the next five years. Under this, warehouses of 2000 tonnes capacity will be constructed in each block. He said that the aim of this scheme is to protect the grain from damage due to lack of storage facilities.
