Kharge criticized the government saying that President Murmu was not invited to the inauguration of the new parliament building

New Delhi: Mallikarjun Kharge president of Congress today criticized Narendra Modi-led BJP government for not inviting President Draupadi Murmu to the inauguration of the new parliament building.

He alleged that the ‘BJP’ government has repeatedly shown disrespect for ‘constitutional decency’ and that the office of the President has sunk to a ‘nominal’ level.

It is worth noting that May 28 has been fixed as the day for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the new parliament building, according to Lok Sabha Secretariat sources.

In a tweet Mallikarjun Kharge said, “Just by looking at the elections, it seems that the Modi government has ensured that the President of India is elected from Dalit and tribal communities.” Similarly, former President Ram Nath Kovind was also not invited to the inauguration of the new building.

He further said that President Draupadi Murmu was not invited to the inauguration of the new Parliament building. The Parliament of India is the supreme legislative body of the Indian republic and the President of India is its supreme constitutional authority. He alone represents the supreme government, the opposition and every citizen of India. He is the first citizen of India.

Kharge said that the inauguration of the new Parliament building by the President would demonstrate the government’s commitment to ‘constitutional decency’.
