Taiwan dispute: Xi calls Biden to warn him not to play with fire

This is the 5th round of talks with Xi, who has been president for a year and a half. But, despite this, the trade and Taiwan issues between China and the United States are becoming more and more intense.

WASHINGTON: President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke on the phone on Thursday, warning Xi not to take steps that could harm the United States in the Taiwan dispute, Chinese state media reported.

The two leaders held a ‘virtual’ summit meeting for more than 2 hours regarding the dispute between Beijing and Washington centered on the autonomous island of Taiwan, which China considers to be its own territory.

Xi said exactly what he said on Thursday during the Taiwan-related talks in November last year. According to the state-run Xinhua News Agency, Xi told Biden, “People who play with fire end up getting burned.” I hope that the United States of America has clearly understood this.

He further said that the Chinese government’s position regarding the problems of the Taiwanese people has not changed. Strong desire of 1.4 billion Chinese people to maintain China’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
